Wow! Halloween is so cool.  The students in Mrs. Smith's class did so many different things on the last school day before Halloween.  I remember Mrs. Levy working really hard to put together this thing called a Read-A-Thon but I had no idea what it was.  Mrs. Smith explained it to her class so I made sure to pay extra close attention while she was talking.  All the kids made goals for how many minutes they would read a night.  They are looking to challenge themselves and meet their own personal goals as well as a school-wide goal.  I bet I could read a little bit each night to help out.  I will need to have someone leave a book by my bowl though. Hmmm, fish problems!

Because Friday was the kickoff for the Read-A-Thon, the 3rd and 4th graders had a few different activities planned.  The kids all came to school dressed as their favorite storybook characters.  The students were so creative in their outfits.  The best part of the day, though, was when a celebrity reader came into the classroom.  Ms. Miser came to read stories and even she dressed up!  Ms. Miser kept the spirit of Halloween and read some fun scary stories.  I was really brave, though I may have been listening while safely hiding behind the flower in my fishbowl.

I think my favorite part of the day was at the end when the students began a Halloween engineering experiment.  The students had to use toothpicks, 25 gummy pumpkins, and 20 candy corn to build the tallest tower possible.  There were so many tall towers.  They were tall enough for a fish to live in!  It was a really great day.

Glub, Glub, Glub,
